Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable form of botulinum toxin. When used in tiny doses and localized areas as a cosmetic treatment, it safely and effectively prevents the chemical transmissions between the nerves and muscles around the injection site. This makes it difficult for those muscles to contract, which can give you a more youthful appearance.

Botox is also FDA-approved for use in treating chronic migraines, which are defined as severe headaches occurring 15 or more days per month.

What aesthetic concerns can Botox treat?

If Botox is used as a cosmetic treatment, it can help treat several types of beauty concerns, including:

  • Crow’s feet: wrinkles around the corners of your eyes
  • Frown lines: wrinkles between your eyebrows
  • Wrinkles on your forehead

By preventing your facial muscles from contracting and making folds in your skin, Botox gives your skin time to regenerate and fill out, thereby temporarily reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

How is Botox used to treat migraines?

When Botox is used to treat migraines, it’s injected into the pain fibers that are involved in headaches. It disables the nerve endings in those fibers from chemically transmitting pain signals to your brain, which effectively stops your migraine sensations before they even have a chance to begin.

What is the process for getting Botox treatments?

Advance Practice Care LLC will offer Botox treatments as an in-office procedure. The whole process will be simple, non-invasive, quick, and painless. Your provider marks your injection sites and then uses a very tiny needle to inject small amounts of Botox into your skin’s shallow muscles.

Botox treatments for wrinkles usually need about three to five injections per site, depending on the site, while treatments for migraines generally require 31 injections in seven particular areas across your head and neck. Botox requires no incisions or general anesthesia, and the treatment has minimal downtime and recovery.

It can take some time for the effects of your treatment to be readily apparent. For facial wrinkles, it can take up to a few days* to see results, while migraine treatments might require up to six months* to settle in.
